Teaching yourself to knit: results

On the first day of class, students who had no knitting experience were told to go home and teach themselves to knit by relying on the websites listed in the lower right sidebar. How’d they do?

Ashley and Stephy did great. They both thought the video instructions were very helpful and came in with quite a bit of knitting done (picture on right taken at the start of class). Ashley has lots of crochet experience. Stephy knit when she was very young, but had forgotten the process.

Jonas figured out the cast-on, but didn’t go further because he thought he wasn’t doing it correctly (he was!). The rest of the non-knitters were completely stumped by the cast-on.

Our conclusions: learn to knit websites don’t work for many people, but if you don’t have someone to show you how then the video instructions are the best option.
